2001 citroen c5 problems

Post by thefrenchconnection »

hello
im new to french car ownership only reason i bought my c5 was it was recomended as a good towing car as i have a caravan, its a 2001 2.0hdi sx with 76000miles from new ive owned the car nearly two weeks and everthing was fine till monday just gone i heard a scraping noise from the rear while driving home from work seems the rear caliper is rubbing against the inside of the wheel rim and has left a grove in the alloy wheel, then on tuesday i get economy mode flash up on the display,i also have a loud droining noise coming from the front wheel while doing 50mph+,its going into the garage next week for a health check, has anyone experienced these problems?

the rear brake calipers are a well known problem caused by corrosion between the caliper and the trailing arm will need new bolts, discs, pads and depending how bad they are new calipers. economy mode usualy only comes on when the engine has been off for 30mins with ignition on it cuts out most of the electrics untill the engine is restarted. droning wheel bearing cv joints or driveshaft bearing ?????

well its still at the garage the brakes have been done just needed cleaning up so there fixed :-) i decided to have the timing belt done as there is no history with the car to say it has been done best to be on the safe side and the garage did a health check and found there was play in the nsf ball joint so thats getting replaced to and a osr tyre nearly at the illegal limit so fingers crossed that all that needs doing at the moment.

wow what garage is this £45 ill have my brakes done for that. im surprised the rear calipers didn,t require new bolts at least as the caliper has been pushed so far out of line that the caliper has worn a groove in the wheel and the pads must be wedge shaped aswell. if hes doing the belt it is a good idea to change the water pump and belt tensioning pully at the same time. if they go after the belt change it will mean another new belt.

you need to put this garage in the recommended garage section for others to use in your area
