The TD belt interval is 76,000 UK miles, or Two years?? Off top of my head..

I know the milage is around 76,000 miles though...

Did you do the water pump while you were in there? Its likely if you didnt it will start leaking not long after the new belt is fitted... else its cam belt OFF again...

According to Citroen, 72,000 miles or 12 years whichever comes soonest.
I changed ours (for the first time in it's life!) at 67,000 and 11½ - I'd only owned the car for matter of weeks, and knowing that the FSH showed no belt change (not due for another year), had been driving in fear and trembling, keeping under 3,000rpm. Once off, examined to much sucking of teeth and 'You were bl00dy lucky!' and such like comments. Badly perished with extensive lateral cracking and evidence that a proportion of the internal cords had failed.
I would reckon 5 years and 60,000 for safety - asking around, age seems to be considered a more significant factor than miles. That reminds me, mine is due next summer.

I don't do a huge mileage but personally do my cambelt every 3 years at the most. I do it myself so no labour charges and the cost of a belt is much less than the cost of a new engine

Im sure 12 years can't be right? :?

I thought it was 72,000 miles or 5 years for the XUDs?
HDis are 100K or 150K (depending on which model of HDi) or every 10 years. I usually replace them at 70K on HDis, the water pump is usually leaking by then, its best to change it all early.

72,000 or 12 years is what my the Service booklet for my 95/96 Xantia says. Before I bought the car, "cambelt change?" was one of things I checked (the car was just past its 11 birthday); full Citroen service history by the book.

My reaction was "72,000 or 12 years?"

The title of the Haynes Citroen Diesel Engines 1984-1996 manual suggests that the XUD was launched in '84 so at the time my engine was built (Jan 96) Citroen would have barely had 12 years field experience of the engine. Perhaps they revised their overly-optimistic initial service schedule not long afterwards in the light of service failures? My car demonstrates that an XUD9 treated gently can go to nearly 70,000miles and 11½ years on the original timing belt. Would I be prepared to chance it again? Given the condition of the belt removed, NO WAY!
