Xantia front bumper replacement.

Post by Stepto1 »

Had a deer/dog/fox run out at me tonight while I was on a duel carriageway. Hell of a bag and a right (bloody) mess.

I was lucky to keep control.

Outcome? No sign of the animal, guessed it got thrown into the verge. Judging by the blood/brains/guts it can't have felt much.

The car? It's a bit of a mess. Need a new complete bumper (advert placed) and I guess the bumper mounts will be shot. I haven't had a poke around yet (too messy).

Has anyone replaced a bumper on a mk2 HDI 110 before?

Much to do?

Fingers crossed the damage isn't any further back.

Hey ho. The bumper was already snapped at the bottom and badly scuffed and the reg plate needed replacing.

Feel rotten that some family may be withouth their pet tonight.

Steve.

Hi stepto..

Oeer, yes that is frightening! Glad your safe and sound though....

Front bumper is pretty much the same as S1 cars.. Theres two 13mm bolts inside the front arch holding the sides in place and these 10/10 SIEZE UP! Do you know where these are. They are easy to find once you know.

If you look in the arch, the plastic liner if its still there has a removable circular part, remove this then reach in and have a feel for a 13mm nut head.. Unfortunally due to seaizing, I find many time I have to force the captive nut out of the plastic bracket with a screw driver and some force, actually, with your broken bumper you could do this which will then help you to locate the securing bolts...

Theres also a T20 torx screw right on the lip where the upper bumper joint the wing useually hidden by the arch liner.. in saying that, I have a feeling S2 bumpers have clips on them.. same on other side..

remove the indicator, and unclip the headlight trim..

Three 10mm nuts on the under side.. these can sieze too and snap..

Hi Paul, there's no access port on the S2 wing liners. You unbolt/unclip and peel it back.

Rust in these bits is all but unknown here. Even my 405 (1990) has basically nil corrosion to these parts.

Hi Adam..

i didn't mean rust on the car.. i meant the nut and bolts rust!! which mean they never undo!

body work on xantia is good in this area even on UK cars from what ive seen so far..
