97 R TD BOSCH PUMP?

Unread post by chrisjvm »

Hello Citroenists.
I was wondering....
Does a 1997 Xantia TD have a Bosch diesel pump ?

Regards

If its any help:

If it was a 406 then its 99% certain it would have a Bosch pump, however the Xantia earlier models did not have an electronic advance as far as I know whereas all 406's did.

Thanks for the replies....
The reason I asked was because I wanted to know if i could run it on Veg oil....
And I was under the impression that a Bosch pump was the only one that would be compatible ??

A Lucas unit won't be up to the job really, or won't last very long.

I'd have thought a 97 Xantia would have a Bosch pump, mine which was built in 96 and has electronic advance does, best to take a look at the pump to make sure.

ALL 1.9 TD XUD engines had Bosch Pumps... I ve NEVER seen a TD lump in a Xantia without..

Only 1.9 N/a SD were lucas mechanical, and the 2.1 was Epic...

So go for it!

You can tell a Bosch Pump.. they sit high in front of the engine and complete obscure the the Hearter Plug and water pipe to the top of the head on the cam belt side (left side of the head) Theres also a Curcular "Mushroom" sort of device that has a black pipe comming out the side of it to the Air intake Pipes over the top of the engine

The lucas pump a a lower profile type pump, and leans forward a bit more, and has better access to the heater plug forementioned....

But, if it lucas, its been stupidly converted to it, or its the First One EVER I will have seen, If it is lucas.. I have pleanty of Bosch Pumps and injectors, a set just removed from a car Im in the middle of scrapping...

Ive got 4 Xantias with Bosch pumps to sell.... 1 estate and 3 hatchs...

Apart from a 306 where older shape TD's were Bosch and the newer shape ones were 90% Lucas for some odd reason. :) Interestingly the NA 1.9 later shapes were all Bosch...

Reminds me more of the Starship Enterprise in shape - it's the boost pressure compensator, increases the amount of fuel injected according to the intake boost pressure. The little black pipe commonly splits on the underside resulting in under-fuelling and loss of performance. Tell tale is oil mist over the intake pipe where it joins the inlet manifold.

I have a 1996 xantia td with a bosch and it runs fine on veg oil .
if you are thinking of using filtered veg oil u will need to monitor/change the fuel filter regularly ,which is easily done .

bearing in mind that veg oil loses viscousity in cold weather and the engine will not start happily anywhere around freezing or below.
In cold weather u can probably get away with 65/35 %diesil/veg, but do make sure from others first .

lucas pumps cant handle it , and will fail before too long , whatever the temprerature .
