Xantia 2.0l HDi (110bhp)

Post by stevestix8 »

Hi,

Thought I would ask the forum to see if anyone has some advise.

When I got my car mot'd recently the bloke who did the mot (worked at Citroen for 10yrs) suggested I get some diesel fuel additive as he didn't think it was running as smooth as it should. He didn't know the name of it was just a diesel additive. He said to put some in and run it up the motorway in 4th gear (about 3000 revs) to clean the entire fuel system.

I was wandering what you lot think about that? Is there a better additive than others?

I have found some on ebay (see link)

Anyone else used this before? How much fuel to 325ml additive bottle?

I used Jetex for diesels on mine... purely because I have a few bottles resting in the shed lol
I always use some additive to clean a car when I buy it.

Some say the catclean is one they prefer... but never used it

I have used Wynes injector cleaner myself, and it did make a difference on my BX, helping the performance and MPG somewhat. Mind you, I got it at a better price. Even Halfrauds are cheaper, and that's going some!

I hope this helps.

Hi,

Ok thanx for responses.

I have found redex (500ml) for cheaper on ebay

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121020735102? ... 1423.l2649" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

and 250ml redex on amazon for cheaper also.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001QLX0TK/r ... B001QLX0TK" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Have heard it can improve performance (mpg) and continue to protect injectors after use. My question is will a 250ml (prob 1 treatment for a full tank) be enough? Or should I get the 500ml bottle and do it twice? To my knowledge it has never been done.

It mainly depends on what sort of driving you do. If it's round town, then the engine won't get hot enough for long enough to keep the injectors clean (so they will clog over a long time), whereas if you do a fair amount of motorway driving the problem shouldn't arise.

IIRC, Wynes say to use it in a full tank, with an interval of 5000 miles. I wouldn't shorten the interval or raise the concentration as I don't know if this could cause any problems.

I know that there are a lot more knowledgeable members on this forum who can explain this more clearly than myself.

Very hard to actually discern any difference when driving, but:
When I put Wynns D injector 3 in tank of Xantia hdi I'd just bought it did let a whalloping lot of clart out of the exhaust when I first wrang it out through the gears.

Miller D treatment - a small dose per tankfull - "may" have helped the mpg on my 406 hdi. Noticed a drop in economy when I stopped of about 2mpg. Seemed to make it work better at light to mid throttle. This product improves cetane value of fuel making it like Shell Vpower, but cheaper.

Forte D treament. Regarded as effective by garage trade. Generally F inly supply to trade but it is widely available on ebay.

2T oil at 0.5%. Considerable discussion about this on web forums. I find it makes engine quieter at start up and pulls smoother between 1100-1250rpm. Not just psychological, before I positively avoided this rev range. Now I am subconsciously finding myself in here and trickling along in slow traffic a gear higher than previously.

Cheers

To help with the quantities it says on the label 10ml of Redex per 5lt of diesel fuel ...

So if you have 60lt tank then add half of bottle (of 250ml Redex) for a full 60lt tank.

Best to add it to the tank at fillup time so the incoming diesel mixes it as evenly as possible with the fuel.
