2006 Xsara Picasso Towbar Wiring

Post by wigelywoo »

I am about to fit towbar wiring. I am using 7-way relay, Do I get my pick-up from the wires going to rear light clusters? Lots of wires down the left hand side of the boot, what.

TIA wigelywoo

i think your car is multiplex in which case you are probably better off getting the plug and play wiring kit,

here is one listed on ebay you will have to ask the seller questions regarding model/year spec

You will be fine using then7 way relay, I do loads of Picasso towbars, without issue.
You should really run the main power lead to the large terminal on the Alternator, but there is power to the interior lamp on the N/S.

I was thinking of running cable from battery via 30 amp fuse to power relay and two 17.5 amp cables via 15 amp fuses for fridge/ charging system.

Yes! Thats the way to do it. Anything less will give you disappointing performance in your fridge when towing. I fitted towbar and electrics to my C5. For the 12N wires I picked up the connections on the rear light clusters and ran them to a Smart7 relay. For fridge and battery charging, I took two 17amp cable from the battery to two fuses. Then down behind the engine, where I threaded them through the fuel line conduit. I brought them into the car through the inspection grommet over the fuel tank and then into the load area of the estate car. They were connected to a Smartcom relay and then to the 12Ssocket.

Right- back to the issue if the rear wiring plugs:

6 Pin White Plugs:
Common Earth: Pin 6 (Yellow / Green)
Rear Tail Lamps: On Body, Pin 1 (Rear Left Hand Green, Rear Right Hand Red)
Rear Indicators: Pin 2 (Rear Left Hand Yellow, Rear Right Hand White)
Reversing Lights: Pin 3 (Rear Left White, Rear Right Blue)
Brake Lamps: Pin 4 (Rear Left Blue, Rear Right Yellow)
Note an additional feed on the rear left hand brake lamp wire feeds the third high level brake light.

Looks like the 03 version has the complex system
having stripped things down there was a 6 channel Ryder relay along with a Smartcom fridge relay heaven knows how it was wired the Ryder fed 2 separate 7 pin plugs .

It would be helpful if someone had a copy of the wiring diagram with the colour codes for the Citroen harness .
the vin no is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

Thanks in anticipation / advance

cheers Patrick

I've updated the last post to add the colours for you - the colours differ left and right hand sides.

Thanks Marc
Those are the wires to and from the 7 pin plug and socket into which the trailer extension cable goes to the light board .
it is the car's actual loom that I would like to trace .

Ok, let me try and explain it a little better.

The wiring pin connections I put up are for the left and right rear body light clusters. These are the plugs from the car's wiring loom that connect into each rear light cluster on the body.

There are no diagrams for entire looms - they are not supplied - only the connections at the component level (where the wires plug into a piece of equipment or an ECU). This is why I have put up the connections for the rear light clusters, as these are what towbar electric kits will need to connect to. As I said somewhere earlier, there was no trailer relay fusebox supplied by Citroen as an accessory for the Xsara Picasso.

So I can't help you with what isn't factory supplied wiring and secondly I can only help with component level wiring - entire looms are not supplied.

The other end of the rear light cluster connections go back to the BSI / ANC Control unit under the driver's side dash (where the fuse box is).
