Citroen xsara 1.6hdi 04 plate

Unread post by rossimad1 »

i am posting this because i really need help!!! my turbo went on my car so it was replaced with a new 1.after fitted the turbo wouldnt work properly or the engine wouldnt rev very high. the only way the engine would rev is if you took the vacum pipe off the turbo and the obviously the turbo wouldnt work. so took egxaust off cat the lot to see if it was clear and it was so fitted back on. also run with it off didnt work. if vacum pipe is conected you rev engine up it will slowley pick up the you can finaly see actuator open then the engine will rev properly.when driving it does the same you have to drop clutch put foot right down on accelerator you will hear it start picking up drop clutch then the turbo will work if get to junction drop revs turbo will not work again. changed egr valve valve back of engine air flow meter now just come to a full stop. please please please can anyone help me i have no more ans.

Not sure if you have read the other threads on here about turbo failures on these engines? Worth a look.
Just had a turbo fitted to my 59 c5, still not running right - waiting for a solution, its in my very favorite Citroen specialist garage atm I have the utmost trust in them. When its fixed I'll post the solution.
Wished I still had the 2.0 version of the engine :-(

Pleased to say my C5 is now fixed , if you are still stuck rossimad, I can recommend Richard Dalton's independant citroen garage, nr Stoke.

The turbo in these are variable vane turbos, the actuator rod controls the opening and closing of the vanes, at low revs the vanes are up to aid spooling of the turbo, as the turbo speeds up the vanes gradually close to prevent over boost, could be two things causing this. The turbo will only boost when under load not stationary reving it. First thing could be affecting second thing and vice versa! First thing is the vanes could possibly be jammed open either faulty actuator or soot jamming them (depends if it's a brand new turbo or second hand). With the vanes jammed open the turbo overboosts and the ecu cuts fuel delivery. The second thing which is often overlooked is the turbo boost sensor (it's nowhere near the turbo), it's right down the back of the engine (timing belt end), it's burgundy colour with a few vacuum pipes coming off it. If this is faulty it will cause incorrect operation of the actuator thus limiting boost, possible limp mode etc.

Might help in your quest!
