internet address question

Post by jgra1 »

all,
tried to edit a gumtree ad yesterday evening, and this morning got an email from GT saying ad had been pulled.... all I did was lower price by £75..

email from GT tonight said

'Sorry you re having issues. Can I ask you to let me know your internet provider please as there appears to be an issue with the location of where you re posting from. The site only accepts UK posted ADs and I need to see if there s a technical issue affecting your account.'

is there a way I can find out where I am , so to speak?

Go to http://whatsmyip.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and that will show your current external IP address.
Copy the IP address and use the Location link on the left of their website to find out where it thinks you are.

Interestingly the majority of your posts on here are not from the UK (your post above is though)

ok did a trace route, and there were 13 hops
the first 3 were waveform.net
then 5 were level3.net (Detroit, NY and then London)
then an unknown level3.net
finally 5 hops with as13285.net / one of these was a .static.
total time 94ms

208.
4.
212.
78.
62. were the IP address starter numbers of the hops

Trace route shows what is between you and something else on tinternet

According to the forum, your current IP is assigned to a Manchester based ISP that regularly tops the charts for worst customer service and most complaints.

The majority of your posts come from an IP address allocated to a Dutch company.

It can be that the routers beyond that are set to not respond to ICMP traffic or you've hit the hop limit.
