Xantia Front Shperes

Unread post by Sam KS »

Hi al

how do i test front Spheres on a S2 Xantia? I have replaces rear, accumulator and anti-sink. the ride is a lot better but not the "magic carpet" i keep hearing about. actually it's good but, nut not as smooth as almost any other car i have owned.

Press down hard (or if you're fairly light, sit) on the top of each front wing in turn (as you would with a conventionally sprung car). Relatively, the springing should be rather soft and softly damped.
2012 Subaru Forester - capable but no magic carpet
2011 Grand C4 Picasso VTR+ 1.6HDi - not missed!
1995 Xantia Estate SX 1.9TD in Vert Vega "The Green Lady" - sadly missed
1998 Xantia 2.1 VXD Estate in Mauritius Blue - R.I.P. (terminal tin-worm)

Yes, you can do the bounce test and see if you think it feels soft, however this is relative as what do you compare it to?

The best way is get the spheres to somewhere/someone who pressure test spheres :)

I took a wheel to be refurbished in my Xantia estate, the guy who came to get the wheel out pressed on the back of the car while getting the wheel out, it must have went down a good few inches. He turned and look surprised and said "did I just push that down?"

ok, i have pushed down (I'm a big chap) on the front guards, with the motor off and it feels like a rock. like all the movement i am getting is from the tyre wall flex.

should it sink and come back up like the back end with the motor running?

That doesn't sound right. What model is your Xantia? Is it hydractive?

I don't think so? it's got 6 spheres, 1 pump and hight controllers front and rear. dose that help narrow it down?

If its not VSX or Exclusive then its non-hydractive. In that case it should be soft to press on, you should certainly have more give than just the tyres. Sounds as though the front spheres need replacing.
