Like many I went slightly reluctantly to a Xantia as the supply of BXs had dried up - much the same situation with Xantias / C5s now. So here's the highlights:
Xantia 1: N895 YST 95 1.9TD LX hatch. Bought for £1450. Covered 40k miles over 2 years, got scrapped when the head gasket let go at the oil gallery end.
Xantia 2: R140 OKV 97 1.9TD VSX hatch - one of the Citroen registered Mk1 run out models. Bought for £1250 at 53k in Dec 04, covered 65k over about 30 months, then I sold it to a friend who ran it for a further 2 years, when:
Xantia 3: X867 WAB 01 HDi 110 Forte Estate arrived. Bought at 47k for £3k end Aug 2007, just ticked onto 137k yesterday, so has covered 90k miles to date.
Total mileage 195k
Litres of diesel: 20600 approx (105k at 40 mpg, 90k at 45 mpg). Rough cost: £22,500
Oil changes: about 24
Heater matrices changed: 0
Heater matrices fixed with Forte rad sealer: 3
Breakdowns: none where I have failed to get home, about 5 where I have just scraped home (including today - see my other thread about charging issues).
No of rear caliper bolts extracted: 12, number broken 0
No of clutches changed: 0 (well not on Xantias anyway - have changed 3 others in the same time)
No of blower transistors fitted: 0 although I did have to fit a new feed to the blower relay on the current one soon after I got it. Other than that no real electrical issues.
Amount of welding required: none (although my current one is getting a bit crusty in the rear door shuts - and did have the top hinge on the driver's door welded before I bought it)
No of LP fuel pumps changed 0 (although our Xsara Picasso had to have a new one) - my Xantia is still on its original AFAIK.
Longest lived rear pads: 130k on the current car before they were worn right through.
Longest lived tyre: one did at least 70k on the rear on the current one
Number of times re-sealed the boot hatch on the estate: at least 3. Currently holding. Pretty it is not!
No of accidents: 1 small one last winter when I ran into some black drainage pipes I couldn't see and broke both front fog lights and cracked the bumper.
So it's been a pretty reliable and comfortable 10 years, wonder how much longer it will go on? It's been pretty cheap too, apart from that fuel costs, but that would have ocurred on any cars I was running.
