2.0 Hdi vibration at 1500 rpm
Both the 406 and the C5 do this but the C5 is worse, if you try to accelerate at 1500 rpm in 4th or 5th there is a drumming vibration, is this normal or do I have a problem, I have changed the top engine stabiliser but that has not helped, it feels as though perhaps the exhaust is under stress. Maybe this is normal for these engines but my 2.1 XMs you could pull away from tickover with little or no vibration.

Re: 2.0 Hdi vibration at 1500 rpm
Mine had much improved pull at low revs after I changed the cam belt..... not really noticed this as a problem on mine now - although I don't tend to try and pull from standstill in 4th...

Mine is not lacking power, if you accelerate gently it doesn't do it, but you cant do that going up a hill

Re: 2.0 Hdi vibration at 1500 rpm
Wasn't saying it was lacking in power really, just that it had an awful vibration (much as you describe) below about 1500 rpm, so you had to select a gear to avoid it. It was much better with a new cam belt (even though the timing was apparently spot on on the old belt) - and has pretty well remained so in the nearly 30k since. There are a couple of roundabouts on the way to work that used to catch it out, but no problems now. Mind you, forking out for a belt change to save £3 in fuel is probably not good economics!

Re: 2.0 Hdi vibration at 1500 rpm
Ive not found this. I do find our 2.0HDi 110 C5 a little grumbly at low revs but not a vibration. My Xantia HDi seems to have a slightly smoother engine at lower revs than our C5 110, that pulls happily from low revs with any grumbles or vibrations.
I wonder if it could be another engine mount on yours peter?

Re: 2.0 Hdi vibration at 1500 rpm
That's what I am wondering which is why I appreciate your experiences. The vibration seems to be worst at exactly 1500 rpm on both cars, below that its not so bad, something seems to be resonant at that frequency, the XM is so differnt, I am wondering if it has a heavier flywheel, or could it be something to do with the DMF?

Re: 2.0 Hdi vibration at 1500 rpm
Right, having regularly driven the XMs down to 1200 rpm for over 15 years I'm finding it hard not to be able to do the same with the Hdi's, it makes it a less relaxing drive because you have to change gear now and again. I don't think its the driveline because it will pull reasonably smoothly from well below 1500rpm, it just round about those revs that it vibrates.
Does anyone have a 90 hp engine that hey can give me a report on as that doesn't have a DMF, or anyone that has changed a DMF for a solid flywheel?
Thanks
Peter

Neither our 2.0HDi 110 C5 or Xantia HDi have a duel mass flywheel ...Peter.N. wrote: or could it be something to do with the DMF?
Peter
The C5 had its DMF removed at 60K due to it failing, it had a solid flywheel fitted. The car is now fast approaching 150K miles.
Im not sure if that has anything to do with it. I dont remember my 2004 C5 110 having a vibration at low revs and that did have a DMF.
I was taking notice of this when i was out in the Xant HDi earlier, there is no vibration at low revs and it will happily pull in second gear from tickover.

Re: 2.0 Hdi vibration at 1500 rpm
I think the DMF on my 406 is on the way out, that gives a noticable vibration in a no load state, when the engine is neither pulling nor retarding, as soon as you put a load on it the vibration stops, does it at about 50-60 mph. Completely different type of vibration to the one I'm complaining about though.

Re: 2.0 Hdi vibration at 1500 rpm
I had that on the estate, very bad in the end and shook the whole car. New DMF and clutch fitted - no improvement whatsoever - turned out to be a duff injector.jgra1 wrote:probably not relevant but my 110 c5 is bad at idleing.. the car shakes noticeaby.. I am guessing it's my DMF on its way...
Completely forgot to check for vibration today, sorry. I'm sure I would notice if there were any.
