Fuel consumption

Post by imperial21 »

Hi
I am alittle disappointed in my c5 s fuel consumption,It has had a few bad weeks journeys to work i work about 7 miles from home and its a nose to nose cruel, and i have had nt the chance to stretch its legs so its averaged 35mpg which i feel is low, I am very light on the accelerator pedal and i have replaced the air mass sensor for a used genuine one.
Best i have had from the car a run to london and back is about 58 mpg again i was disappointed.

My xantia was a bit better and could easily do 60mg on a good run, I am expecting too much from C5 ? I know its a large heavy estate car !!

Whats your thought s ??????????????

ALmost 60MPG from a 2.0HDi 110 C5 is excellent, I wouldn't expect any more. 35mpg in stop start traffic is not far from the expected either.

Are you going by yours cars MPG read-out or are you working it out yourself?

What would your Xantia do on the stop start run?

I think the xantia did about 38 ish stop start, I guess you are making me feel a bit better, One big saving over the xantia is the c5s road tax is nearly half the Xantia !!

I would say your C5 is right. Its slightly heavier which would account for the extra fuel, perhaps. Brakes are free, tyres correctly inflated etc?

I would concur, I drive exeedingly gently and my 2.0Hdi C5 is averaging somewhere in the low 50s, when I brought it home from Wales it did over 60 mpg but that was a pretty traffic free run and I rarely exceed 60mph. I have a 406 estate which on average does a couple of mpg more, the best being nearly 68mpg on my trip back from Scotland last year but the way I drive would drive most people to distraction. Around here they both average around 50mpg but its mostly rural driving and I rarely venture into a town. That's 10 mpg better than my 2.2 Hdi C5 which only manages about 40mpg.

I thought it was a wind up ... when I started reading the thread lol ... those figures were great :D ...
I am really pleased with my 2.2HDi C5 that it averages 45MPG mixed and managed to get 700miles from a tank in mixed driving motorway and London traffic.
The C5 on the 3 journeys to London the 3rd trip comes for free!! lol compared to my Lexus IS300 which can not achieve more than eeehmmm 25-28MPG lol and ... a full tank (70lt) does not last more than 330miles... max

I dont think I can get my C5 much above 50mpg on a quiet motorway.. and I guess the average for my bendy 7 mile commute to work is more like 35..

I try to keep speed up and drive gently, light throttle, but not always.. I also want to hold 70-80 on motorways..
I thought my mpg was about right..now I am not so sure..

That's what I thought...it's quite big and heavy, like the others said too I would say about 35ish pushing maybe 40 about towns depending how light footed you are and late 40s maybe 50 on runs. It's the same 2ltr 8v that's in my Pug, that gets dam near 50 in town and 55+ on runs but it's smaller and lighter plus I just doddle much to annoyance of some behind me

I got the  from a (-expletive removed-) in his Audi the other day as he overtook because I didnt accelarate like I had a turbo up my arse....I just laughed and blew a kiss

Actually I was expecting higher fuel consumption of my year 2007 C5 compared with my year 2008 Civic 2.0L

Surprisingly they are about the same. I'm getting 10Km/L. same traveling pattern and distances.

Here i go again i did a bit of trip today, I towed my 6 x 4 trailer today about 100 miles unloaded and 100 miles back heavly loaded ( engine, gearbox, transfer box from a 4x4 RS2000) it averaged 42 mpg, I thought it might of been better but maybe i am getting a bit tight !!!!

Id be happy with that when towing :)

When our 2.0HDi 110 C5 pulls a one horse up horsebox the economy is significantly reduced. That said it is on the limit of its capabilities of weight. That car averages about 43-45mpg in every day use.

Your C5s economy sounds healthy to me 8-)
