This happened on my friends wife car.
A few weeks back the coil pack died on her 2001 1.6 16v scenic, She took it to the garage and they swapped it out while she waited, 2 days later the scenic was running on 3 cylinders again so they looked under the bonnet and saw a molten mess that was a coil pack believed to be the one they changed, They rung the garage up and the garage collected the car, A couple of days later the gargae called back and said the spark plug had come out and taken the thread out of the head, The garge then quoted best part of 1k to fix !!! But when asked the garage could nt explain why it happened.
Sadly the car has been scrapped.
I thought i would ask if anyone had heard this happening ?
When the garage changed the coil pack originaly they didnt take the plug out ( i have to admit i would clean the plug before refitting the new coil pack due to unburnt fuel and oil on it) which means the last time the plugs where out was when i changed them some 9 months ago when i serviced the car for them.
So why would the plug come out and distroy the coil plug ?????????????????????????
Anyone heard of this happening ????

Re: Anyone heard of this happening ????
Maybe the plug was loose all along, which caused the demise of the origional coil pack. Would be difficult to blame the garage, even though I would say it would be bad form not to remove the plugs and check them.
Seems strange that a repair was not possible, we have some superb insets from Wurth, that make the thread better than origional, it a simple job that can be performed for around £60 to £70. We originally got the kit for 2cv which often spit out their plugs.

I spoke to the garage about having the the thread in the head re done in situ but they would nt do it, Also they commented there was probably bits of the plug in the engine, They showed us the plug that came out and it was eaten away, To me it looked like servere over heating on one cylinder, I have never seen anything like it before. I cant comment on the plug being loose but i would have been surprised !! As i said the plug had been in the car at least 9 months.
