Where is the glow plug relay on a 1996 Xantia 1.9 TD ?

Unread post by romie »

Hiya,

And so winter begins....

It seems the voltage has stopped being fed to my glow plugs and so I had to get a jumper cable onto them this morning to start :/

Does anyone know where the relay is for feeding the plugs is?

I can hear it clicking but is tricky sussing which one it is?

Many thanks!

Ok, ran out again at lunch. Think the relay is on the RHS wing under a plastic bag.

Looking at the circuit diagram there is a 'glow plug relay' and a 'post heat relay', anyone know why there is a need for two?

.. is it so that the water temp and timer can control the main glow plug relay I suppose?

So then I'm down to figuring out from the microfiche and circuit diagram which is the main glow plug relay.

microfiche shows three relays!!

Citroen part numbers:
6555 86 - 25 AMP
6555 48 - 25 AMP
6555 VY - 30/10 AMP NR -- BLACK (whatever 30/10 means??)

:/

Glow plug relay is just that, should be around the battery area at a guess on these (not looked) Two heavyish leads and a multiplug will be found on it.

The post heat unit, that's to control the plugs after starting for up to a few minutes at low temps and low engine speeds. To be completely honest unless its well below zero they do not really do a great deal it seems, perhaps reduce emissions slightly when stone cold and improve running a little bit but it should run fine without post heating. Ultimately if you had the engine at 2000 rpm the post heating would be shut off anyway I expect.

- yes, if it's the same as my 1995 TD.

It's bolted to the inner wing, and you have to remove the battery to get at it. If you need to replace it, then should be quite straight-forward
