whine from either the alt or power steering pump

An 03 C5 2ltr hdi

It's seemingly coming from whatever sits at the front left of the block.....is the bearing replacable (seller says it is, i've got my doubts) or is it the whole part, anyone know

it's probably the alternator, but you would need to listen with a stethoscope (read long screwdriver or bit of wood pressed against your ear!) to be sure. Alt bearings can probably be replaced, but you need a good set of tools to do so. PAS less easy to rebuild I'd have thought. Could be one of the tensioner bearings, or even a cam belt pulley.
