thank you for letting me join your club. i have a few problems i would like some help with if you kind ppl can.
1st my 1.9d xud9 sufford hgf so done head skimmed ect put back on tryed to start. and the engine was ticking over
very voilent when you give it a rev it caimled down. but there is still white smoke comeing out of the van
i left it running for a good half hour to see if it would clear but its still there. the van is a 1996 and have spent loads on it
and can not spend any more wife would kill me. some one as said the pump timing is out or its not timed up rite.
can some one please tell me what i can use to time up the engine with out buying the locking kit...thank you very much

If it runs smoothly but still has smoke it could be water remains in the exhaust boiling off..

For locking, you need 2x 13mm BOLTS... and a 6mm allen key..

Remove your starter and behind there is a hole for the 6mm allen key. Once you have that located the Cam bolt should screw into the corresponding hole behind it and so should the Pump one. Theres two on the pump, the reason for this is so the Pumps can be removed without disturbing the cam belt.. However, for timing purposes one will do, and you can use the one at the 12 o clock position..

If one of those doesnt screw in or line up then the timeing is out, which after a head refit, sounds like the case.

i never remove the starter when doing a cam belt, i just use a long length of 3 1/6th copper brake pipe, this way you can bend it about to fit behind the starter

That's fine when you done as many as we have Malcolm.. but if you dunno where it is or to look!!

that's when you have to remove it...
