accelerator "R" clip

Hi, my spring clip that fits on my accelerator cable, has dropped off! ( Xantia) it tensions the cable , I think? How do you tension it? I guess it fits against the washer, any help gratefully received, thanks inadvance Terry .

just pull the slack out then position the clip as you said make sure there is still a very small amount of slack left

When i lost mine while doing a bit of fiddling under bonnet as you do i used a piece of 16mm copper pipe just cut to size till had a bit of play and put on cable pump side of bracket so didnt pull through.
Or anything else that fits over cable and don't pull through hole for a stop gap
