Goodbye Xantia hello C5 HDI 2.2

Following a sequence of events the old trusty mk2 citroen xantia yesterday slipped a feew teeth on the timing belt resulting in hammer drill than a turbo diesel.
As a quick replacement I spotted this

but I am not sure if it is as easy to mantain as the Xantia. First thing I would like to change is its cambelt, replace the automatic gearbox oil and possibly the DPF oil.
Has one else been through these tasks and on this C5 and are these jobs still within the reach of a DIYer at home. I do have a Lexia if it helps.
Any advice will be most appreciated.

All i would say Masood is if fuel economy is your priority then avoid the 2.2 auto, its known for being a thirsty beast especially in auto form. Cambelt and water pump are DIY'able if you have experience but doing the Eolys fluid is not something i would advocate without proper protective clothing. Eolys fluid is carcinogenic and has biohazard warning labels on it, I sometimes wonder how we are saving polluting the atmosphere by using something so poisonous!

My mileage will go down a lot as now I have to take Tube trains to work.
For the other times it will be nice to have a comfortable car with space in the boot.
Apart from Eolys issue rest seems encouraging.
If its auto gearbox is anything like an AL4 changing oil should be ok as long as I follow Citrojim's advice.

I would always follow CitroJims' advice (even if I had p155ed him off, and he told me where to go, how to get there, and how long it would take!!). In my opinion, what he knows he REALLY knows, and when he doesn't know he will make an educated guess (which is usually better than some specialists "years of training and experience"). I have no doubt that others on the forum will confirm my opinion of him (and I've never met the guy, just listened to the advice he has given on the forum).

I have to say that it is a very nice and well equipped C5. However, I wouldn't overlook the 2.0HDi (both 110 8v in earlier C5s and 138 16v 2.0HDi in later C5s) for a 2.2HDi. The 2.0s are more efficient by a long way (the 16vs especially) and generally less trouble. I know many 2.2 owners really get on well with their engine, but the 2.0 is just too good not to get, in my opinion.

If your going for a C5II (2004-2008) then get a 2.0HDi 138, you can get manuals and autos. They are the same power as the 2.2HDi but more efficient. My 138 2.0HDi manual does 50MPG on average, I can not complain with that!

I bought a 2.2 C5 earlier on this year and it is a very nice car but as previously mentioned the fuel consumption is poor for a diesel. I drive exceedingly light footed and mine will only do about 45mpg as opposed the the 2.0L I have just bought doing about 60 mpg, mine are both manual, with the auto box and 'normal' driving expect 30-40mpg or less if you do a lot of urban driving.

The up side though is that they are easier to work on than a Xantia/XM, in some cases much easier although there are still some jobs that are a pain. I topped up my Eolys tank without much of a problem but you need a Lexia to reset the low level warning.
