aaaah that would explain it, although both belts had 117 teeth i think it was, and i think i did hold the new and old tentioner against each other, i dont remember doing the same with the new idler though,spider wrote:I had this problem once with an XU10 unit (if I remember it was a 306 GTi) , they changed the belt / tensioner arrangement so the replacment tensioner needed the 'newer' belt (it was new!) , I forget the specifics but it was something like 139 vs 138 teeth on the belts![]()

i didnt find 3/16th to small/loose i just felt it wouldn't go in/locate by very much at all, as though it was just the tip entering a small dent rather than a peg hole in the flywheelJohnD wrote:It seems the flywheel hole is 8mm and maybe not very deep so 3/16 rod would be very loose.
