306 injector

Post by froggy »

Hi, my wife"s, 306 , 1.4 petrol. it started to miss quite badly. I have changed the coil pack, it has made no differance. plug leads are ok. could it be the injectors? if so , is this a garage only job? many thanks inadvance , Terry . 8-[

What year 306 is it ? :) , Its the only one in your signature without a year ;)

Very late models (the 'phase 3' from V plate I think) were multipoint. Earlier models were usually (but not always) monopoint injection.

Is the 'K' light on ?

Are spark plugs OK ? (whip them out and have a look) if its not running on one cylinder or running barely on it the difference in the plug condition will show.

The injectors do come out of the rail without too much trauma if I remember correctly. I'd be tempted to check its not plugs (or leads if its an early model, later ones have the coil pack sat above the plugs) at fault first

I the warning light is not on which would be unusual as I'd expect it to make an appearance if there was a misfire if nothing else the emission level would be amiss in most cases.
Andy.

Try swapping them all around to see if the fault follows; it's likely only one is at fault. Piece of cake to remove and refit.

Drove the car this morning, it drives fine, when cold, but as soon as it gets to temperature, it starts to miss badly, does this confirm injectors?, Terry .

Could be a bunch of things. Injectors work harder driving a cold motor up the road than when warm, so it looks as though they're out of jail.

Normally, a hot miss (cue Malcolm!) is CAS - from my experience.

Crank Angle Sensor

http://www.auto-essentials.co.uk/ecomm/ ... -2830.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It's below the thermostat housing, embedded into the bellhousing top. The dummies test for this, is when the engine's misfiring you stop the motor, and pour a cup of cold water on the sensor, then restart. If it runs smoothly again the sensor's internal windings are broken.

I'm unable to find a pic via google search for you :(

If I remember correctly, its a browish plug with three wires into it. The brown one "IN" the thermostat housing is not it, that's the bitron sensor for A/C in most cases.

You should see something with maybe a greyish cable and a black or dark grey body sat "inside" the top of the gearbox.

Look below the top hose under the thermostat as indicated above.
