C8 RT3 & LCD Bricked Unit??

Post by C8misery »

Hi All,

Just joined and this is my first post so please be kind!!

I stupidly left my extremely inquisitive 4 year old boy in the car (keys in the ignition) while I jumped out to close the garage door. #-o #-o

The engine was not on, but my little boy hadn't been strapped into his seat yet....anyway before you could say oh ****! he had pressed the central locking button.

I eventually got back in the car when he 'accidentally' opened the sliding door and I managed to dive in...

suffice to say in those few short minutes he had a whale of a time pressing every button he could lay his hands on (bless him)...

anyway after strapping him in turning the car on and switching everything off he had turned on....I noticed the lcd RT3 screen kept flashing as if it was trying to turn on.

It lights up with the Citroen logo, then in the bottom right corner you get starting....loading...then it goes off again. Also now the radio has started to spontaniously come on for a few minutes then go off.

I have tried the 'Dark' button reset which has had no effect.

The unit has always worked really well upto now....please tell me my little 'angel' hasn't bricked it?? #-o

Thanks in advance, I'm sure there will be more to come!!

:roll: I wish I could be the bearer of good news :roll: but there is a possibility...........

My guess would be that little fingers has pressed something and the system has become confused, there's an old trick which has worked before.............but not guarenteed and that is to disconnect the unit from the power supply completely, once that's been done. press and hold the power button for 30 seconds and leave the unit without power for 12 hours. then plug it back in. (Holding the power button for 30 seconds gets rid of any static that might be in the head unit.

If that doesn't work then it becomes a bit more serious. Do you by any chance happen to have a copy of the software that came with the car? This will be a disc that has the Navteq software on it, and not the maps.

I think that somehow, and I'm not sure how, the head unit is looking for the software, if all else fails then I think the Hard Drive has gone :twisted:

Thanks for thr reply,

I upgraded the firmware to ver 5.52a last year with the software from the now offline Eurovan2 forum.

I still have the disc. I tried putting that in and letting it install but it just kept restarting and ejecting the disc.

Is the hardrive replaceable?

To be honest I'm not sure, I think so but.............

I have to say that if you've already tried the disc, then I have to say I'm thinking it's terminal :cry: give me a couple of days, I know sombody that had thiers repaired a while ago, I will try and find out where.

EDIT Just had a thought................ I think there's later version of software...... 6.? but again need to check

I've done a little digging and found a couple of PDF's

RT3 diagnostic: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32110529/C6%20 ... GNOSIS.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

RT4 diagnostic: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32110529/C6%20 ... GNOSIS.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'm still waiting for somebody to get back to me on the repair job.....

Big Thanks Trainman,

Tried the 12 hr power disconnect still not working.

I took out the RT3 unit and disassembled it and thought I found the answer ie onboard battery failure but they were showing full charge not bad for over 10 years use!

I also took the lcd display apart looking for bad traces on the pcb etc but again nothing.

One thing I did notice however was that the fibre optic cable comes out of the unit very easily at the rear, infact it comes out while you are removing the RT3 unit as it is much shorter and looking at the pdf you attached earlier it says...
''URGENT : Risk of the multifunction display and telematic unit being rendered useless : Do not disconnect
the connection cable between the telematic unit and the multifunction display when the telematic unit 40-
way connector is connected.''

I think it is that which has caused the problem.

I got my Lexia working over the weekend and it states an error with the fibre optic cable and non communication with the emf. Whatever that means!!

It is such a shame because everything still works just intermittently, apart from screen..

Just thought I would ask here anyone used this guy before?

http://www.famousdehmous.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

He is saying that he can provide me with instructions and photos to fix my RT3 for £30.

I am very tempted would be cheap fix compared to a new/used unit.

I know nothing about these, I will have a proper look in the morning, I'm limited as to what I can see from work.

After a few emails it turns out that it is the screen that has the problem not the head unit.
It is not a £30 diy fix apparently it needs sending off to him....in spain!!! 8-[ 8-[ yikes!!! Not made my mind up yet whether to send it that far....

The chap reckons he can fix it for £60.

So disconnection and reconnection of the optical link while the unit is on cream crackers the screen...but what damage could that do?

Surely it doesn't do any physical damage?

Wonder if it is just a sync issue?

Are there any budding fibre optic engineers out there that can comment :) :) :)

citroen c8 but still psa vehicle (peugeot 807)
the problem i have is that the rt3 van bus version is not working after upgrade to 5.52a from i think 5.41 i downloaded 5.52a and put it in as the head unit said software out of date so i did all works telematics cd changer radio
here is my problem it wont play any cd's or read any maps!if you put any music cd in it reads it and plays but no sound but track time counter working ok even with cds and mp3 cdr's before the 5.52 upgrade it played any cd in the head unit so i bought 5.5d genuine disc from citroen £20 and i am looking of a way to downgrade the rt3 to accept the 5.5d but dont know how to do it there is a french forum that tells you but the translation not good and the bloke at m3power says there is a way of renaming a file which is basicaly what the french forum says but he cant remember

here is the link to the french forum post [RT3] Downgrade d’un RT3/NAVIDRIVE - planète citroën

any help appreciated

thanks Simon
