C5 - Anti pollution fault

Post by kettlesimon »

Driving along in the rain today in the Darlington area (if you were in the area you will know what it was like). Anyway i went through one of the "puddles" a little too quick and water came right up over the bonnet. Next thing the engine missed and the dreaded EML came on, showing antipollution fault. Car now runs fine, but still has the lights visible (Chris i think i will be coming to see you and your Lexia again). Is it likely that i have done any other lasting damage, or is it just that a sensor has "tripped" the system.

Yes, I know all about the weather around here, I'll be swapping the C5 for a boat tomorrow if this keeps up!

By all means, drop by and I'll stick it on the Lexia.

Hopefully it wont have done any damage, if its still going, drives fine and sounds the same, it should be ok! A basic diagnosis there

My uncle did the same this evening, his car (inferior Audi) cut out a few times after it went through a deep flood but it has been fine since.

I'm just up the road in Durham, and had to drive 40 miles in similar conditions today (took 2 hours to drive from Durham to Newcastle - normally 25mins  )...

I noticed that the 'SERVICE' light was flashing after a while (it normally only flashes once when I start the car, along with "Diesel Additive Low" (it's not!)), but now the SERVICE light seems to flash while the car is under load at low revs (eg, uphill in top gear). No limp mode or loss of performance, and no anti-pollution warning lights.

The quicker I can find a confident member to remove my DPF and code out the related error messages / sensors the better!

I commute to Newcastle from Hartlepool, it took me two hours this morning, the A19 was carnage!

Ive not had any problems with running of my C5 or our other two C5s due to the damp weather. Maybe if you have been through a flood but not otherwise. I have been though a couple of patches of deep water at very low speeds, I put the car into the high setting.

Took me 40 minutes to get from Washington to Birtley - four miles :)

Check your air filters, they could well be soaked and will poison the MAF if left.
