AX GT lower arm balljoint

Post by Will »

Hi there.
Just a quick sanity check really. I am replacing the o/s lower ball-joint on my Mk1 1990 AXGT, or rather replacing the arm as I don't have access to a press to get the BJ out!

Should be an easy job BUT - the balljoint 'stick' on the new arm (where it inserts into the hub) is noticably larger in diameter than the old one (2mm dia wider as a rough measurement),and as a result I am really struggling to get the lower hub clamp opened up enough to get it in.

I've noticed on the delivery note that the arm is stated to fit AX 92-96. I thought that the arms & balljoints were the same all the way through production, but now i'm not sure - was there a change in size for the Mk2s?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
Will

That size change is parallel to what happened on the 405, you can probably fit later hub carriers.

There are two sizes listed on the French websites, 14mm and 16mm.

Think the RPO was 5277 for changeover.

Thanks for the replies, it does seem that there are indeed two types, 14mm and 16mm.

I'll make a note of the VIN tonight and let you know.
