So let me get this straight...

Post by Junkman »

Hello, I'm new here and there is one thing I noticed immediately.

Section Renault - 31 pages of threads
Section Peugeot - 81 pages of threads
Section Citroen - 500 pages of threads, despite there are separate sections for various models!

Yes, very Citroen biased. But there's a few Renault geeks on here (me included)
French is best.

Thanks god. I was afraid it reflects the amount of trouble one can expect with any of the three brands...

It's also historic. This forum has been running a very log time (some 12 years now) and it was and remains the meeting place for Citroen Xantia owners, us being somewhat unique in not having our own forum. Once we tried but the FCF is our home and the attempt to create a Xantia-specific forum failed so here we stay.

I had no idea there is no Xantia specific forum. Strange, considering how popular these cars are. Or should I say were?

Indeed. They're getting to be a rarer sight on the roads these days. Mostly the only ones you see now are the tidy and well-loved ones. It's all the bangers that seem to have gone... The scrappage scheme claimed a good few no doubt...

That scrappage scheme was the ugliest piece of social engineering from the Soviet regime.

Yes. I quite agree  I was an indirect victim but my daughter a beneficiary

My dad had a lovely Miami Blue M plate Pug 205D he traded in for a Nissan Pixo under the scheme. He gave up driving earlier this year and gave the Pixo to my 17 year old daughter for her birthday; the car in which she learned to drive and passed her test in. She loves it and is utterly delighted with it... Dare I say more so than she would have been with a Pug 205D and on hard financial grounds it's cheaper to insure and run with it's road tax and insurance grouping for a 17 year old...

It's no defence of a terrible scheme but for one girl (and her dad's pocket) it was good...

In the 400+ miles from Southampton to Lanark last Thursday I only knowingly saw 1 Xantia - and that was on the hard shoulder getting a wheel changed!

There is in parts of Somerset too. And plenty of BXs. Where my dad lives I parked in the little town car park on day not so long ago and it looked like a mini CXM was taking place...

I put it down to there being a very good Indy Citroen specialist in the town who still sells lots of Xantias and clearly looks after them well...
