Post by Juliso35 »

They do look good though. Easy to keep an eye on the fluid colour too.

What spec is this Xantia then!? It's a CT Turbo but doesn't show the hydraulic feed
for the clutch on either side of the bulkhead!?

Like the skeleton look on the pipe work - makes it more obvious it's all doing something!

I would be very dubious about running standard clear PVC pipe across the top of the engine for the pump inlet, that type of material will soften greatly with heat from the engine, and being under suction the pipe may collapse, starving the pump of oil. Any hydraulic pipe used under suction must either be very thick walled or have a reinforced wall that is designed not to collapse under suction.

It shouldn't really be too hard to find proper mineral oil resistant hydraulic pipe - its used on tractor hydraulics and just about any machine with hydraulics, that's what I replaced the pipe from the tank to the pump with on my previous Xantia:

There are two different sizes, the attachment at the tank end is larger than the pump end, so I used two different diameter pipes and joined them with a fitting using jubilee hose clamps:

While the PVC pipe might work for a while, its not a suitable long term replacement.

Thank you all for your responses!!.

Mandrake you are right!!: Of course... I've noticed the same thing. They become very soft with the heat. Anyway this is a repair that I have under observation and permanent care. I also tried pipes similar to those in your photos but these were very rigid and replicate the original curves was not so easy.
Thanks again for the comments. I have two months with these hoses installed and so far have not problem. These are clear PVC hoses of a thick-walled reference. They almost have 2 mm !!.
