C3 Fault codes help!!

Post by sazza13 »

Hi, I've taken my car to 2 seperate garages now, the first did a diagnostic and said that there was a fault with the gearbox, thats it and now the second has given me the fault codes which are 02 and 97, he doesn't know what they mean, the gear box is the BVA AL4 from what I can gather and I'm at my wits end! the details about the car and the problem which has made me go to have the diagnostic is below:
C3 SX 2002-19,000 Miles,
the snow and sport light come on when i am driving and it jolts and the D (drive) icon disapears and leaves a line, this problem is really intermittent and hasnt done it when it was at the garage, it feels like it won't change up

I really hope someone can help me! hes basically said to wait until the warning comes on again and get it to him with it in, however its 10 miles away and I really don't like driving when its in this mode, if I stop the car and restart the engine after the warning is on the problem disappears!

HELP!

Thanks
Sarah

Hi Sarah, I am not sure offhand about the code interpretations but what you describe is generally the "pressure regulation electrovalve" fault. Remedy is to 1. Have the gearbox firmware reflashed by someone with a Lexia, and 2. Install new upper electrovalve pair to the gearbox.

It shouldn't cost more than a couple of hundred, done and dusted.

Have you looked on this thread to find someone close to you with a Lexia?

Sorry what is reflashing? And the auto specialist I took it too didn't suggest what you have suggested surely they would?

Reflashing is like when your computer installs a newer version of a program already there. Sort of an "update".

The problem is well-known, and most affected cars have by now been updated - it's easy to check the software version number with the Lexia tool mentioned. This piece of kit can also provide more information on the faults.
