C5 roof bars

I have just purchased a C5 Hatchback, and after declining Citroens offer of bars at £89.00.I went on a trip to France and purchased in the supermarket roof bars for said C5 for £28.00 and a few other things. (good eh)
Anyway on the top of the C5 there is a cover for the roof fixings, two screw holes I hope, does this cover just pull off and can it be replaced or does the bars have to kept on all the time.
Any help appreciated before I attack the roof.

Cover just prises off, I have removed one of mine using my fingernail so don't attack them with a massive screwdriver because there's no need! They clip back into place if you take the bars off.
