Leaking washer bottle

Post by xenton »

Filled my screen wash up the other day and after a few minutes most of it was running down the street. Enough left in for a couple of uses, so I am thinking washer bottle has a leak near the bottom. I gather you remove the wheel arch liner to get at it, is it an easy job to remove it for repair or replacement if needed?

If one of the washer pipes have split it WILL drain its contents.. but slowly...

The washer bottle is accessable after peeling back the arch liner HOWEVER, its secured in by a metal strap with two 10mm bolts, HOWEVER, they always sieze onto the nuts at the back due to pick up of crap and water thats rusts them...

What I do then is cut the straps right by the bolts this way then you can still re use the strap and cable tie it to the structure..

You could also cut the bolt heads off and refit with "non rusting" bolts and nuts if theres such a thing...

Also, you can get at the Washer motor and feed pipes from under the front corner. Theres a clever single motor, that spins one way for one screen and in reverse for the other!

Thank you for the reply, it empties quite quickly, so not the pipes. Useful info, I'll have the angle grinder on standby.

It's more than likely the washer bottle is full of water and is overflowing, if so the problem is with a check valve in the hose running to the washer jets, the check valve is essentially a one way valve which keeps the hose full of water and prevents it draining back to the tank. The easiest way to check this is to pull out the washer pump from the bottom of the tank, if a load of water pours out then you know one of three things, A: the check valve is blocked, B: there is a blockage in the pipe leading to the jets, C: the pump itself is broken.

Its a bumper off job for the C5, you can't do it via the wheel arch liner. Did mine in approx 30 mins, bumper comes off surprisingly easy once you've taken the clips out of the wheel arch liner that hold them in place. New bottle was £35, spring for a new O ring for the pump when you get the bottle, chances are the old one will be perished. The bottles split along the seams as they age. :(

Just had to put a new pump into mine and yes! the bumper needs to come off. If you have lamp washers be sure to remove the covers first.
