Xantia replacement Key

Post by melkig »

Hi,

I've got a 1998 1.9TD Xantia which I believe is a version 2 (it has the intercooler at the front). Disabling the immobiliser is performed by using the keypad so am I correct in assuming there is no transponder in the key fob?

I only got one key with the car and would like another cut just in case. Could I get by just getting another key cut? I obviously wouldn't have remote access to lock the doors but I could probably live with that.

Cheers

If you have a keypad you do not have a transponder, you can't have both (it would in theory be possible but a lot of trouble do to it) :)

Just have a key cut and you should be good to go if you've got a keypad.

Thanks for the confirmation. I did think it would be very silly to have both a keypad & a transponder; in fact it was only after reading some threads on here that I realised that a transponder was even fitted to the Xantia at some point in it's life.

Thanks

There's no need to go to a Citroen dealer for an expensive key even though they have to be cut from a unique cruciform blank. Try any branch of Mr Minit - about £10 when I had one cut and it works perfectly.
