C5 automatic energy saving mode

Post by Napoleon »

What's this all about? Can I disable it? Seems to be invoked pretty quickly meaning I can't sit in the car on wet campsites and listen to the radio. Have to turn the engine on to do anything.

Maybe with a Lexia, I don't really know, its there to prevent you running the battery flat, you used to be able just to turn the ignition on and off but now I believe you have to start the engine to reset it - which further discharges the battery :?

I have a battery radio that I have made a power supply for to run off 12v, you can plug that into the cigar lighter and it draws much less current than the car radio.

pretty sure a lexia will disable it Tim..
I was looking into it a few weeks ago.. will turn mine off if I can

Other odd thing I found is with that front power socket is that it does appear to supply power when the ignition is off, although the centre and rear socket do.

I didn't really want to have to buy Xp to run Lexia, but it looks like there's no choice. I don't have Lexia as yet. Maybe I should think more seriously about it.

You don't like the centre one live? Why not? Someone in the back fiddling with it?

Yes! Start the engine and let it tick over for 3 minutes. Then you get 3 minutes more use from the radio. Useless! And not only is the radio disabled. Try the electric windows.

This power available/not available at the 12v sockets is beginning to explain a lot.

I have two of these on board cameras, one pointing forwards and plugged into the 12v socket at the dash, the other is in the rear window looking at tail gaiters and the like. (plugged into the rear socket).

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250929200857? ... 118wt_1165

I had noticed that the front camera, when plugged in, and switching on the ignition, would give a little 'on' beep, and would switch off when the ignition went off. Great - just what I need, I don't want to have to manually power it up.

But the rear one - what a nuisance, in a way. It is always on, due to the 12v socket's arrangement to be 'power always there'. I wonder if this has been draining the battery by any chance? I'd like to be able to disable this, and make the rear one power only on at ignition. Is this potentially a Lexia thing? It's going to be that or else a separate switch in the cabin where I can kill power to the rear socket at will.

you could run a single-to-double socket from the front one Tim.. and both cams from there?

I suppose that would work, but I'm not sure what the current draw would be with the two cameras - maybe they consume so little that it would not be an issue. The 'product info' just says '12v'.

Other thing of course is running the lead from the front to the rear. That rear socket is very handy.

A Lexia can adjust the time before the Eco Mode cuts in.
On my estate it was 45 minutes, on the hatch it is 25.
I have to start the engine to clear it - in both cases.

I forgot and left my Tom Tom plugged in, didn't use the car for three days and the battery was completely flat. :(

I fitted an aftermarket head unit so took a power feed directly off the fuse box in the passenger side, I suppose you could just alter the existing harness by cutting the power feed, crimping on a female bullet (to the car side of the harness) then crimp a male bullet onto the radio side of the harness and run a seperate feed from the fusebox and put a female bullet on that. That way if you want to put the car back to stock you can remove the fusebox 'feed' and link the original harness back together. Much cheaper than a Lexia but not half as useful.

Hope that makes sense.

Steve.
