207 HDi exhaust smell in engine bay

Post by Quidam »

Evening all,

I was checking the window washers whilst the engine was running and on opening the bonnet there was a strong wiff of exhaust. I had a good look for anything obvious and came across what looks like a sooty deposit on the top section of what I think is the turbo oil feed pipe.

Can anyone shed any light? I obviously don;t want to drive it in case fumes get in the cabin!

Cheers,

Q

Probably a leak of combustion gases from an injector, very common.
Lift off the engine cover to reveal the injectors, if you get a rubber hose or a bit of screen wash pipe, and stick it next to your ear, you can probe around the injectors to locate the exact leak, you will clearly hear it through the pipe like a stethoscope .

Not really, the injectors are tough to get out, helps if the engine is very hot, then you need to remove the front rocker cover (easy) to get a good grip on the injector to wiggle it out.
Main issue comes now, in getting out the sealing washer, and you really need to recut the seat for the seal.

Didn't see your picture when I looked the first time, that looks like a leak around your turbo body, can't see a lot of soot tbh.
I would still suggest checking the injectors with a pipe, you can also check around anywhere that looks suspect with the pipe tool.
Leaks at the turbo body like this often mean the dpf is getting clogged up. If your injectors are ok, I suggest getting the car on Peugeot Planet and seeing what your DPF pressures are like.

Thanks as always for the replies folks,

Seems to me that whatever the cause something major is wrong with it?

Think it might be trade in time...
