806 osf stub axle

Post by Harlequin »

finally bit the bullet and found out the `clunking` (well took it to a better garage than before)

off side front stub axle is worn - the ball joint is moving inside and thats the clunking :(

so - replace or can the ball joint be sleeved to fit?

edit:

yes its a pug 806

Is this the bottom balljoint that the suspension arm is connected to? If its the same as most other Peugeot/Citroens they usually screw into the stub axle assy but they are very tight, you really need a special tool to remove them.

maybe its a common fault on these, as the Synergie we bought for my daughter,
we pit it in for a MOT Thursday and one thing it failed on was the N/S lower swivel pinch bolt not pinched up tight enough (so we thought )
i tried tightening it on Friday to find the only wat to tighten it more than it was was a lot more leverage than usual   ,
the was and still is a gap at the pinch clamp joint,
but my thoughts are get another hub/carrier,

the swivels on these are factory fitted to the arm not like the XANT's

As above (have replied to your PM) , the balljoint is part of the arm, unlike Xantia's / 405's / 406's / 307's* where its screwed into the hub.

* A massive deep socket needed for 307's I do have one although it took a lot of hunting to get one that was really deep enough to do it.

Back on topic, as above really if a new arm does not cure (don't try to press the joint into it, assuming you can obtain one) then it will probably want a hub assembly. I don't think this is that common though, but its not unknown.

Cannot attach a pic, photoplop is having a concern it seems.

That's the hub itself. At least the suspension strut comes off it so its a replacement hub (sometimes called carrier) needed in that case.

As soon as photobucket decides to work...
This account is in maintenance
...I'll post a pic, I could post elsewhere but I prefer to keep them all in one place for this.

that bit that the ball point is screwed into ;)

so - if its a hub *complete* is it model specific or does the same part fit other models?

I think its 806 specific although Expert will be the same as well as some Citroen models.

Slight chance its the same as a 306 but I doubt that.
