stiff window winders

Hi, just wondering if anybody has ever repaired the window winder mechanisms on a Peugeot 306 (L Reg). I’ve never really had time to do anything on my car till now, so I am trying to fix the little daft faults while I can. I have a feeling these mechanisms are the cable type. I was in the car the other day sweating like hell cos the window winders are so tight it takes forever to wind up and down. Any help is appreciated.
