Xantia HDI estate wheel bearing

Post by Taffyrhys »

I have travelled back from Wales to Hertfordshire today and I've noticed a whinning noise from the front end. It sounds like a wheel bearing on its way out, as i took it out of gear and you can still hear it. I was wondering if anybody has any idea roughly how much this will cost in a garage?

I would give it a go and replace it my self but don't have access to a press.

Cheers

Top tip - seems its rarely the side you think it is! Normally, bearings hum more when under load, hence right hand bend, if louder - left hand bearing suspect. Doesn't seem to work like that on Xants for some reason - the 'cassette type' bearings seem to be noisier OFF load - but I'd recon on doing both, then if you get the right one first time its a bonus!
