Xantia poor acceleration

Post by froggy »

Hi, I am finding my 1997 TD, Xantia, has very poor acceleration from second to third. My Xantia is now heading towards 180,000, should I exspect this sort of acceleration because of the mileage? anybody got any thoughts or ideas. many thanks in advance Terry .

No you shouldn't expect it.
Check you've got no boost leaks from the induction pipes, make sure they're all tight.
Also check the boost pipe to the UFO on the pump for splits, it might be time to replace it.
When did you last replace the air filter?

its the large capsule ( UFO shaped unit ) on top of the fuel pump,

as Xac says check all vac/induction/intercooler pipes/ducting for leaks/cracks and not fitted tight ( jubilee clips done up tight )

Get the air filter changed!
Probably an idea to change the in cabin pollen filter too, won't help with the car's performance but It will make the cabin smell nicer and the blower work less hard.
