Changing filters

About to change all the filters on the old girl, The fuel filter would appear to be the different one form my old Xantia

1.9 TD v 2.0 HDi 90 hp what should I look out for or be careful with.

You always need to be very careful not to get any dirt in the filter but especially so with the Hdi as the tolerances are much tighter and the pressures in the system much higher.

oil filter is identical to the xud so carry on as before.. also so is the air filter...

the fuel filter is slightly different as you can see... sequeese clip the pipe ends and remove the two top pipes..Be very carefull.. Theres been report of the spigots breaking when removing the pipes, Ive Not done it myself yet.. they are different sizes..so the top needs to go back on the same way..

then place a small butter container under the small drain spout at the bottom and undo the drain to release some fuel out the filter..close it back up..this prevents a load of fuel spilling out when you lift the top off with the filter attached.

You may need to lift it up out of its fixing place for that bit.. go easy its clipped but does just lift up with a bit of a lift... after some fuel release put it back in place then with a 21mm socket if i remember right undo the top with socket and ratchet.. it only turns half a turn and stops...TAKE NOTE WHICH WAY it is before you lift the top up, the filter comes with it... Pull the filter off the top... recover the circular spring

now place the new filter in the Bottom.. turn it round so it drops right in flush with the top.. they only go in one way.. then along the top outside edge of the filter house is the seal that you need to change with the new one.. swap that. then place the circular spring ontop of the new filter and then refit the top part press down slightly when you turn it back opposite way to the undo...

Sounds worse then it is, but once you done it a couple of times its not that bad!

re fit the top pipes - just push fit so they click back on.. make sure you have refilled with oil.. turn the ignition on, dont start. let the fuel pump prime, do it a second time, then a third to be sure.. then go to start.. if she has primed ok she will start...

Only thing I can add re the fuel filter, having done one recently, are.
Make sure you push the inlet / outlet pipes fully on when refitting as they feel on but aren't, should fully cover the in/out pipes on the filter cap.
The filter cap is stiff and I was scared it was going to break, taking off and refitting but all ok, just keep applying pressure and it will go. Just feels iffy as it is plastic, probably just me being over careful.

Pretty sure the nut on the top is 22mm...

Anyway, these filters have a bit of a design fault - when you take the filter out, and crap on the dirty outside of the filter falls into the clean side bowl in the bottom. Make sure that the bowl is scrupulously clean before refitting.

I take mine off completely and give it a thorough clean and inspect for debris. Doesn't take very long.
