hi all, iv covered over 200 miles today, and this problem has gradually got louder through the day. its a knocking which speeds up with wheel speed but can only be heard when in gear and if im rolling as in not accelerating or decelerating.
inner cv joint or gearbox/dif?

If its at roadwheel speed its most likely to be a CV joint but you should get some change in the noise on cornering. Which side is it coming from?, could possibly be the o/s drive shaft centre bearing.

Re: synergie cv knocking in straight line?
I had a similar, weird and never explained problem with my Synergie.
It came back from geting 2 new front tyres with a knocking noise related to road speed, straight ahead and very slight left & right turn. Local garage that I know well. Went back next day, they put it up on the ramp and they, with me looking on, swung about a bit, found nothing out of order, road tested, noise still there. Then they put it up on the ramp with the wheels on full droop, as it had been for the tyre change, swung, thumped and jiggled, still found nothing. Altogether must have spent an hour fiddling with it.
Then they put it back on the ground, road test, noise gone. Much scratching of heads. Decided drive it for a day or two and if the noise returned take it back and they would look again. That was 5 years ago .... so, you might be lucky

been good since last post so it seems it was just wheels bolts.
