Remapping (Generic Maps)

As opposed to dyno tuned unique maps.

Who here, has actually had a crack at this? Fleabay is chockers with cheap cables and "free 15000 maps" offers.

I was warned off them years ago. Could well be junk that could wreck your engine. Just buy a single map from a reputable tuner, they don't have to be unique though the best ones are. Generic maps will probably disable the immobiliser so that they can work with any ecu. Both the maps I've bought and flashed myself have been really good, plenty of power without noticable increase in smoke. I had to download the current map, email it to the tuner that tweaked it and emailed it back for me to flash onto the car.

Steve.

Thanks for the input. What kind of lead time and cost were involved in that approach?

Also, did you still use a cheap cable?
