Instrument panel on c5

Hi, sorry if this has been asked before but i could'nt find anything relevant. Can i replace the speedo/rev counter binnacle on my c5 series 1 diesel lx model with one from an sx series 1 with full display. Ithink the other display shows battery condition & oil temp. thanks in advance.

Im not 100% sure, it seems that all C5s have the gear for extra equipment but im not sure about that. You could try one in and see how it goes, you might be in luck, however I don't remember that question cropping up on here before. Do keep in mind that if you fit a speedo unit from a car with a higher mileage then your car will take on the higher mileage, it will store that mileage and even when returning to your original speedo unit the higher mileage will appear. If you get a unit with a lower mileage your cars true mileage will show up fine, it will not store a lower mileage. So be careful that you know the mileage of the unit you get, as if you have a low miler and end up with 250K showing, it wont be a good thing!

You can fit the slightly larger top central display without problems. All C5s above LX spec have this, it gives things like average MPG, miles till empty and a better display of problems/warnings. It also shows up the suspension height changes. As far as I know these just plug straight into an LX, you just need the display screen and the plastic surround. If yours is an automatic LX or a facelifts C5 LX, it will already have this display.

Sorry to hi-jack the post, I am interested in what citroenmad says that if i change the centre display it can do the other functions eg mpg, Is that really true just plug in the display and it can now tell me mpg etc does it need programming etc ? If its that easy i may change my lx c5 display so i then get the extra functions.

Hi, Finally obtained the sx instrument cluster to fit to my lx c5. The extra readouts work fine as i hoped. The 2 problems i have are that traffic master comes on every time i switch on which it did'nt before and the " service " light is on and the service indicator will count down from 10 but not reset. The lx dash does not have a " service " light. The 2 questions are, how do i stop traffic master & is the service indicator not resetting because of the " service " light ?. The car has just had a full service and m o t before i fitted the new cluster and so was hoping the " service " fault was from the previous car ? Any thoughts really appreciated, Gordon.

The service light is in fact an engine management light, its not a warning of it needing a service. That warning is the small spanner which appears next to the odometer. Once you reset your routine service warning with the count down from 10, you will see the mileage to the next service go to 12500 (or what ever service plan your car is recommended to). Does that happen?

The traffic master should not be affected by replacing the speedo unit. Try pressing and holding the T/M button until it stops and see if that helps things.

Is it the actual text on the right side of the display with a light behind it that says "service" and it's staying on?
Might need to plug it into a Lexia to see what's up. That light can come on for a variety of things e.g. faulty alternator.

E.M.L. is on the left side of the display.

Thanks for the replies Citroenmad and Jabo. When i try to remove the spanner symbol it goes through the count down as normal but if i turn off and on ,it has not reset. It was the word service that is back lit that shows. Just had a thought, as i still have the LX two line display on the clock i dont have a ride height showing, would this cause the service word to illuminate ? G.

I woulnd't think that would cause it either, though its an easy fit to get the larger central screen and you will also get the MPG trip computer.
