Hi all..
I need something bigger to use with my trailer to be safe and legal. However Im NOT a fan of Big 4x4's like Landies etc.. however, I do like THESE Suzuki Vitaras... Before you shout this eira (1999 to 2005) were fitted with our brilliant HDi engines!! So no worries there... My question is does anyone know the towing capabilities for these? Would I be safe with a trailer and XM behind it???
Im afriad the Towing capacity of an XM is not large enough obviously, and the Xantia is defo too small. With increasing keeness of Towing and weights I need to stay correct.
Advice? One of these a good buy??
Cheers
Paul

My mum had a Vitara for 10 years. The only good thing about it was that it was reliable.citroenxm wrote:Hi all..

Safe with an XM behind it? IME they're not even safe when they are on their own four wheels. Awful vehicles.

They sure do look good value Paul and if they have the HDi engines then at least that is a pretty good point. If all you want is a tow car and not to use everyday then it would no doubt suit, especially if they are reliable.
We used to have a LandRover Freelander, ours was a 2001 TD4. It pulled our horse box and two horses without any problems at all, very gutsy and used daily it would return 36-38mpg, not bad at all! We never had a problem with it, however it had gone through a few going by its service history. A new clutch stood out, as £1200!
Before this we had a 2001 Renault Scenic RX4 (the 4x4 version), it towed well but its petrol engine had no low down grunt, it could bearly pull itself along at low revs in 2nd gear. The petrols also don't have any brakes, however the diesels are very good and cheap now too.

They only had the hdi in for a short while.. up to 1999 X reg it was a mazda engine then from 1999 to 2008 or so, ie. when the next shape came out they went to renaults dci engine...
im not so sure now.. i really cannot decide. but in reality not for me every day.. i hate 4x4s...
so need to think again..

Re: Not a Citroën, but does have a HDI.. ADVICE??
My C5 can legally pull 1700kg, which is oddly the highest tow weight of any model. So you need a 2.0HDi 138bhp to have that weight.
The earlier 2.0HDi 110s are only about 1300kg.
The earlier 2.0HDi 110s are only about 1300kg.
