Precisely what engine John? The type of engine determines very much if the job is a PITA or not!!!

If that's an 8 valve engine then it's an absolute doddle.

You strictly need a SEEM gauge to set the tension but if you have a good feel for the 90 degree twist you can get away with it...

Just beware the index hole in the crank pulley may not be accurate if it's on the outside half of the dual mass annulus...

Apart from that. No issues...

8v units easy, just pin in cam and the crank pulley.

Only real "problem" as Jim has said (more common on the 16v units I think) the pulley outer can move slightly so its not right. How to tell: Turn it and get the crank pulley pin in, then look at the cam one, obviously if its 180 out turn it and try again but if it appear to be 3 or 4 teeth out your crank pulley is unwell. This does not appear to effect the engine only a problem with these when its timing belt time.

The only other problem (not applicable in your case) is the very early I think pre 88 ish engines ? eccentric tensioner arrangement they curiously had.

That 8v unit was fitted in 306's, 405's and I expect some early Xantia's / ZX's too may be worth checking and obtaining a manual for one of these vehicles if you're in doubt although double check first it does cover your engine as later units are 16v.

Other BoLs that will help are the BX, XM and 205. The BX16 and 19 used the 8V engine along with the 2.0TCT in the XM and of course the Xantia Activa although the Xantia BoL is a bit silent on this engine and mixes 8V cambelt replacement up with the 16V... The 205 Auto, 1.6 and 1.9 205GTi used essentially the same engine but with the different (but very effective) tensioner you speak of Andy. I'd expect the Berlingo to have the later tensioner which is precisely like the one used on the TU and 2.0 HDi diesel engine.
