megane key problem

Hi-having a look at a 98 megane with a problem-owner taken betteries out off key and cant get it to re-sync with immobaliser.I've got the code from renault so we can start it by inputing the code however still can get this key to re-sync,i've done the camera test to check the key works...after talking to the old owner she reported some problems with it-like it would take a while some days to unlock etc so i'm wondering about the reciever in the roof-can it be tested?,could we take a transponder and reciever from another megane and install them?-or does anyone have any other ideas?

We had similar problem with our last scenic it seemed to suffer from range where you had to hold key right at the window and pointing it at the receiver to get it to work, i would think you would need the ecu as well, aren't the keys paired with ecu.
