well I crashed my car into a large rock...long story...
the upshot of it is that I need a new engine, sump and air con compressor. insurance has approved a new engine that is being ordered from Citroen.
my car is a 58 plate C5 with 44,000 miles, 2.0 HDI. when the new engine goes in do I have to run it in ? will it come with new turbo , or will they use old one ? what else should I look out for in this repair.
I had been thinking car would be written off but I think now I may as well keep it for much longer if repair is done well

Re: New Engine
The engineering quality on modern engines has done away with the need to 'run an engine in' unlike the days when they hammered the pistons in and had to tow it to start, it needs to be treated with respect though, just don't thrash it. They will most likely use your old turbo and other ancilliarys as the engines are usually supplied bare. If you want to prevent the likelyhood of turbo problems in the future, change the oil twice as often as reccomended.

Re: New Engine
Might be wise to see if the replacement comes with a water pump and timing belt or not and have these changed while you're at it.
The new unit as Peter say's won't have a turbo / manifolds / starter etc will be a 'bare' complete engine.

Re: New Engine
Good thought about the aux belt.
I do remember a sump was changed under warranty on a Boxer van and they would not pay for new oil (drain into spotless container and pour back in all 8 odd litres of it), to be fair it had only been in a for a few hundred miles but still...

Re: New Engine
new engine block comes with new timing belt and water pump. they are fitting it to the car currently, re-using all the other components.
I hope it will be OK.
guy told me I may as well keep the car as its had whole engine bay rebuilt, new radiator, new air con compressor. they work done under insurance is warranted for 3 years also

Re: New Engine
well the garage have fitted the new engine but theres a problem....it won't rev above 3000 rpm. they think it may have to goto main dealers to have ECU re-programmed now !

Re: New Engine
Could well be the MAF that has died from the excitement. Not too sure if that will show on a Lexia or not though. Unless its something silly like a unconnected vacuum pipe or worse still mixing them up, some of them have a "selection" of electro valves and hoses on the bulkhead, would not take more than a moments inattention to mix them up I think.
