It's official - I love my Xantia Hdi

Unread post by gadgetgricey »

As some may know have recently changed cars from a TD Xantia to an Hdi. Got a couple of issues, but basically seems a sound car. (which is great as was worried about swapping, as would have happily driven anywhere in my old TD)

Been pottering round in the Hdi for the past couple of weeks, but had a weekend trip down to Tenby planned for the weekend.

Car fully loaded with two adults/two kids and all associated suitcases etc.

500 miles and the car has not missed a beat. Returned just under 50 mpg which really surprised me, as the cars natural "cruising" speed was faster than I expected.

Wife loves the heated seat, and I love the auto wipers (Sad I know :-D )

Was thinking about getting one of those "chips" to increase the bhp from 110 > 130, but dont think the car needs it.

Very happy chappy from Dudley, now just looking at the map book to decide where to go to next.

good news Dave..

I must admit, I am thinking about upgrading to some kind of Hdi now.. my TD is starting to show signs.. and I wonder now whether the cheap cost of WVO is no longer as good a deal as it seems.. not too mention storing all the barrels..

Must admit was "worried" about changing from the TD, as it had been (and was) such a reliable car.

However all I can say is do it. The Hdi is so much more drivable and if you get an exclusive, has all the toys you will even need.

Cheers

Pretty similar to my thoughts on getting an HDI 110:

Had it nearly 5 years now, and put 85k on it. Just keeps going 8-)

Can't recommend the 110 HDI enough.

Now it's through it's MOT it's a really sound car. Only an LX but plenty good enough for me.

I got 48mpg from my last tank and I'm not a slow driver. The breaks on the 110 are fab (I understand the front calipers are the same as Activa ones). The gearbox is much nicer to use and I'm loving the AC.

Now if only I could get rid of the side airbag light on the dash.....

There really isn't anything not to love about a 110 HDi :-D

Brakes are also those found on the V6...

Speaking of a V6, now try out one of those and the same love comments apply...

I did, "and probably going to get birched with a stick", but did not like it. Could not get on with the auto box.

However I aim to scratch an Activa itch at some point.... :-D

Go on, scratch it Dave :-D You won't regret it but do get a good 'un. A bad 'un is awful...

I know exactly what you mean with the autobox - not everyone's cup of tea. I enjoy it when I'm feeling lazy and can't be bothered with faffing around with clutches and gears...

Has anyone shoehorned a chipped 110 HDI into an Activa?

Or is that considered blasphemy?

No, not at all :-D There was an HDI Activa available on the Continent. Plus a V6, a 2.1TD and 16 Valve version. It was only us who had the poor old 2.0TCT as the only choice of motor...

I believe there is one person somewhere on here who is doing an HDi conversion but news has been sparse of late...

Prima-facie it's not too difficult either as a lot of the running gear is common.
