Post by louie »

hi guys! i have 2001 peugeot 406 v6 d9 manual and its very slow at 1st gear when taking off. especially dangerous at roundabout when you sometimes need to act fast. other gears are good and once takes off ride and gear change are smooth. car has done 160k and havent missed single service since new, including gearbox reconditioning by previous ovner.

Don't know to much about petrol engines I'm afraid, the last one I ran had a carburettor. It sounds as though you are lacking power at low revs, I'm sure someone will be along soon who can help. Welcome to the forum by the way.

I seem to remember the later ones have some kind of inlet manifold solenoid / variable manifold. I wonder if that's 'stuck' open it will be poor initially.

I realise its a V6 unit but if you think of say a 1.6 8v compared to a 1.6 16v, the 8v will be superior torque at lower revs whereas the 16v will be better than the 8v higher up the rev range. Poor analogy I know but hopefully that makes some sense.
