The FCF Banner up there ^

Post by Napoleon »

The FCF banner at the top of the page is wrong - if mimicking the tricolour. The colours should be, left to right, blue, white red. Assuming the flag is flown from a pole, of course.

Example:

And for fun:

The picture was of a translucent flag and it didn't occur to me to flip it as the colours looked good
leading red from the left! Are you really getting into the mindset of your namesake....?

Tim, you're not the first person to,point this out. We once received an email about it in the forum mailbox...

The colours are right and that's the main thing...

OK. Sometimes folk think us graphic designers do random things to suit whatever whim takes our fancy with no consideration to anything but that's not really fair - I intended the chevrons to be first on the left as the x3 logos are in alphabetical order with Citroen first which additionally suited as the majority of posts/traffic here is based on this marque. It won't be a surprise that a red background colour has been accociated with Citroen for the past 20+ years and looked more relevant than the blue which incidentally suited the Renault diamond.

So it designed itself - so there - maybe some people who are a bit sensitive to things have genuine grievances and like to air their comments and life would be dull without different opinions so that's fine. It's just sometimes you wonder what drives some criticism and the motivations for stirring things up without knowing the reason why things are actually the way they were and the considerations that made them reach the conclusion they have...

Finally, the blue was originally run into a black ground colour that ran across the whole banner with the logos and flag positioned off centre on the top left. The blue merged better visually into the black which incidentally was originally intended to have the white text navigation options sit with a strong contrast on the top right. It was cleaner and more balanced to arrive at the current layout.

Sometimes it's easy to criticise but not as easy to offer a better alternative suggestion without something else suffering as a consequence of changing something - usually there's a chain reaction ripple effect when someone wants to change something. Part of the challenge but also why I love my work!!

Hang on a sec, you wanted to start a discussion about the banner design and as the designer I responded by suggesting why things were laid out like they are and the reasoning for everything. Now I'm being portrayed as having a designer hissy fit?

Tim, flp your sig image horizontally so then only the pug lion will be the wrong way.

Andrew spent a lot of time sorting out the logo, which I then chopped apart (his original layout was great but the phpbb3 theme would have taken so much coding to fit with it unfortunately) so the fade to black which looked awesome imho had to go in order to cope with everyone's differing screen resolutions and the phpbb3 layout.
