Post by acrowot »

It looks like I have the common fuel ( lift pump ) fault but before I change it there is a fuse for a fuel pump relay does anyone know where this relay is, tried a search on " fuel pump " but result is words too common.

You've probably found it by now, but according to my Haynes, some models up to & from January 1998 have a 10 amp fuse at F9 in the engine compartment described as "fuel pump relay"

Sorry, slightly mis-read your post

I don't recall any reference or picture of a relay in the vicinity of the pump, under the rear offside seat squab, so my guess as a starting point would be that it's located with the many others on top of the fuse box by the driver's right knee. You could always access the top of pump by removing the large black cover under the squab, and check the power supply/voltage at the connection to the pump?

Hi, Thanks for your reply, I have already done as you suggest there are 4 wires on the pump and using any combination of 2 out of the 4 I only get a reading of 5volts this is why I would like to find the relay.

Thanks Harry, I dont think it is in the same place on the s2, did the mk1 have a lift pump, I thought only the HDI had them or were some mk2s HDI, my problem is only seeing 5volt on the connector I assumed it would be 12volt. I have just started the car , I could hear the pump running and it started so pump or relay, I would just like to locate the relay and test it. I will be missing now for a few days so will try again on return, maybe test the voltage on the pump when it is running if I can get it to run again.
