Xantia Series 1 IR Remote Key

Unread post by DHallworth »

Guys,

Having a spot of bother at the moment which has resulted in us being locked out of our S1 Xantia V6 :(

The key stopped working the other week so I assumed the batteries were flat, bought 2 batteries and fitted them, tested the key and it worked ok. By the time I got back out to the car the key had stopped working again.

Checked the voltage on the batteries and I'm getting a healthy 3v off each cell however the key still won't work. Occasionally I can get it to light up but only by taking the board out of the case and having a prod around.

Is there something that usually breaks or causes a problem on these?

I have managed to coax it this morning into working in front of the car to unlock it but now I can't lock it again as the key has stopped working again and both door locks seem to be buggered.

Any advice or suggestions welcome as I've had to leave it in the workshop just now as it won't lock. Have looked on eBay to see what is there but there's one key that looks scruffy or a guy selling 48 of the PCB's as a job lot. Now I've got into the car at least I can reprogram a key using the Lexia.

Thanks!

David.

For a S1 Xantia you don't use a Lexia to programme the remote, turn the ignition on then fire the remote at the sensor by the mirror job done.

The usual breakage on a S1 key is the ir transmitter eye or switches breaking away from the pcb.

The 'eye' is a weak point. There are two very fine tracks going to it on the very edge of the PCB that tend to suffer hair-line cracks...

I also had one where the IC legs were not soldered properly to the PCB, and it became intermittant, fixed by resoldering (but there is a bit of a knack to doing this without shorting all the legs together).

Paul,

Your offer was greatly appreciated... Problem was I couldn't open the car to get the roof receiver out as the remote was dead and the door locks weren't turning!

Had a probe around the PCB and noticed a spot of corrosion between the legs of the chip, cleaned it up and it seems to be working ok at the moment. Got the car running and took it for a blast. Had forgotten how much fun the V6's are!
