Hi all,
How do I find out which engine variant I have?
Looking for a cambelt kit before I do a 400ish mile trip, but i'm not sure if there are different engines in the c8's.
Its a 2003 2.0 hdi.
Any help appreciated.
(Any site recommendations for the kit's too?)

Which engine id?

Re: Which engine id?
the engine variant is often encoded in the VIN (characters 6-8) or post the last part of the VIN on here and someone can run it through an emanual and give you the characteristics

Re: Which engine id?
As markflip already said it can be found in the VIN code.
Here's an example from mine (MK2 Xantia) is like:
VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]...
V = Europe
F = France
7 = Citroën
X = Xantia
2 = Estate
RFV = 2.0i 16V <--- engine code: RFV
F = 5 speed

Re: Which engine id?
I don't know if Citroen use the same codes as Peugeot but my wife's 807 2l Hdi Manual with a particulate filter engine code is EARHTB
I remember in the owners handbook the code is different if it has no filter or if it's automatic. And for some reason (I'd love to know why) different again if it's a pullman (6 seats not 7/8).

Re: Which engine id?
Any recommendations for a brand of belt kit?
Ive seen wildly varying prices. I'd rather pay more for a kit i know i can rely upon.
Cheers

Continental or SKF are decent reputable brands. I got an SKF kit on eBay for £60, water pump was from memory about £28ish.

Re: Which engine id?
Thanks.
Going by the receipts from last owner, it had water pump done last year, along with a good bit of other stuff.
Also says in service history that the cam belt was changed, but the receipts show all the other stuff, except this, so i'd rather not risk it.

Re: Which engine id?
I'd be shocked if the belt wasn't done at the same time as the water pump as you need to remove it to change the pump. double double check there isnt a belt lumped in somewhere as you'd have to be very pikey to reuse a belt there (unless it was 5 miles old)MonkeyMark wrote:Thanks.

Re: Which engine id?
Thanks guys.
I'll have a check of the receipts.
The cam belt cover does look as if its been off not too long ago.
Looks like i'm going to have to do the clutch (been looking and kits look around £100 on euro car parts site, that seem right?), so I may as well check it out whilst its getting the work done.
