2003 Citroën C5 Hydropneumatic suspension

Post by CitroënDave »

Hi all,

Very first post here, so forgive me if I have done something wrong!

I just picked up a 2003 Citroën C5 HDI with Hydropneumatic suspension. When I push the button to raise/lower the suspension only one side seems to rise/lower. Any ideas what this could be? I've heard when something goes wrong on these its an expensive fix :(

Thanks in advance for the answers!

Hi, welcome to the FCF :)

When you say one side, you mean when you try and raise or lower the car only the passenger or drivers side responds?

They suspension is not independant from side to side, whatever one side does the other one will. Maybe a sticking strut could provide a slower response but it should all raise and lower.

If the front and rear were not working in tandem then I could understand that.

When I say one side I mean the just the front raises and the rear doesn't. Sorry about the confusion.

O.K first things first is there fluid in the reservoir ?

Is the rear suspension already on the bump stops?

Assuming that the answer to the first question is yes and the front suspension goes through the range of max high to max low then the problem can only be due to a failure of both rear electro valves in the BHI or a failure of the height sensor such that it inhabits actuation of the electro-valves is inhibited, this is the most likely culprit and an easy fix. Five minutes with a Lexia would tell you exactly what the problem was and would also allow the electro-valves to be driven to prove them good.
